Studio Policies

Welcome!

At Expressions Dance Studio we are committed to providing the best possible dance education in a positive and supportive environment.  We ask that parents and students review our policies and please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

General Policies

  • Students should be ready to dance and give their instructor their full attention at the time that class is scheduled to begin and should not arrive more than 15 minutes before the class start time unless given permission.
  • Students must be picked up promptly after classes are over.  If you are running late please contact the studio director.  This will help us ease a child's concerns.
  • All younger students must be escorted in and out of the building.
  • Level 1 and up may be dropped off and may watch and leave the building when parent pulls up.
  • No gum, food, or drink, except a water bottle, should be brought onto the studio dance floors, and needs to stay in the designated water area.
  • Cell phones must be silenced when students are in class and phones are only to be used in the lobby area.
  • Clearly mark all of your dance items including shoes and personal items.
  • Expressions is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.
  • Please remove any jewelry other than small earrings before class starts so they don't get caught and broke while dancing.
  • All hair must be pulled back into a bun, ponytail, or braid.  Bun is preferred in all ballet classes.  If hair is short please secure hair out of dancers face with clips or bobby pins.

Behavior

Expressions is a family studio with students of all ages and wish our older students to be role model to our younger ones.  Students should be supportive and complimentary to fellow dancers.  Gossiping, profanity, or inappropriate conversations are not allowed at the studio.

Communication

Communication with our families is so important to us!  Monthly studio newsletters and other important information will be sent out by email and posted on our website at www.expressionsdancequincy.com .  Please add expressionsquincy@outlook.com as a contact in your email and let us know if you are not receiving studio updates. "Like" us on Facebook to hear the latest chat on what's going on at the studio.

Parent Observation

We want parents to be involved in their child's dance education and to feel welcome in the studio at all times.  Parents are encouraged to observe and will be informed in advance of any special in class parent observation days. A constant audience every week can be intimidating for some students and inhibit their progress but parents are always welcome in the lobby and parent observation room at any time. Please be careful of conversation topics because there are many "little ears" around.  Help us to promote the most positive environment and make everyone feel welcome.

Parking

Please park on the paved parking spots or on the street in front of the studio.  No parking is allowed on the West side of the building.  This belongs to Quincy Auto Body.  Please do not block the gravel driveway for Quincy Towing.  They will tow you!   Overflow parking on the gravel lot next to Les Schwab is allowed for pick up or drop off only.

Insurance

Expressions Dance Studio does not carry medical insurance for its students. It is required that all dance students be covered by their own family insurance policies and if injury occurs it is understood that the student's own policy is your only source of reimbursement.

Class Placement

Dance students are placed in classes according to their age, ability, and experience.  One or all may apply when placing students in the appropriate dance level.  We want all dancers to thrive and grow in their class.  Studio owner and instructors have the right to move any dancer to a class that better fits his or her ability.   If you have any questions on what class to place your dancer in please contact us and we would love to discuss this with you.  Levels are as followed:

Dress Code

We want our dancers to dance their best, and in order to do this, they need to dress their best!  Students should come to class in dance attire and with shoes on each week.  Please keep hair pulled back and out of your dancers face so it doesn't get in the way.  Every one of our dancers deserves individual attention and feedback - in order to do that, we want to focus on their dancing, not distracting clothing.  Please no bare midriffs, bra straps, or other undergarments showing.  No dance shoes are to be worn outside of the  studio.  Specific requirements for each class are as follows:

Recital

At Expression Dance Studio we feel the opportunity to perform in a recital is an exciting, empowering, and confidence building part of the dance education process.  Dancers will learn about theatre, rehearsals and teamwork while they enjoy the opportunity to showcase their skills in a big production!  Recital is when dancers can show their hard work and family and friends can share in the pride of their achievement.  We love giving all students the chance to perform in front of their family and friends in a supportive environment.  Our families will be first to know when recital dates and location are finalized.

**Farmers Market and Recitals are mandatory with the exception of emergencies

Dress Rehearsals

Rehearsals give the stars of our show a chance to practice on the big stage!  They can overcome some of the jitters that may hit when the lights come on. Rehearsals can be time consuming, but it's also a fun and rewarding experience and is very important to make sure all costumes are properly fit, to practice the all studio number, and be sure our show runs smoothly!
